Congenital scoliosis and Hemivertebrae Congenital scoliosis is one which is caused due to abnormalities of spine or spinal cord during growth of the child during pregnancy. Even though it is called congenital i.e by birth but scoliosis develops as the child grows and can present any time from 2 yrs to adolescence. It is called congenital scoliosis because the cause of deformity is present since birth. One of the common cause of Congenital Scoliosis is Hemivertebra in which other half of normal vertebra is absent. this is failure of formation. A 11 year old girl presented to us with progressive Deformity of back . Her MRI showed hemivertebrae at D8 and D10 level along with Tethered cord with Tight filum terminale. Pt required two procedures - dethering with tight filum terminale and Scoliosis Correction. Both procedures were carried out on same sitting under neuromonitoring. patient tolerated procedure well and was discharged after 5 days.
