Spine Surgery in Elderly - Lumbopelvic Fixation This 65 year old male presented to us with Back pain going into both legs since last 9 months.He had a history of fall 9 months back following which he had back pain with numbness and heaviness in legs on walking. His sitting , walking and standing time was 5 to 10 minutes due to pain and was affecting his daily life. His MRI lumbosacral spine showed a signal changes in S1 vertebrae with soft tissue and Nerve root compression and was reported as Infection. However His xray showed DISH i.e fused lumbar vertebrae with osteophhytes raising the suspicion that it might be Nonunion of Fracture rather than infection. CT scan confirmed our suspicion and clearly showed a pseudoarthrosis with fracture line passing through sacrum leading to severe Lumbar canal stenosis. 6 weeks back he underwent Laminectomy and pedicle screw fixation from L4 to sacrum.His symptoms have improved significantly.
